CQUniversity still repairing, six months on from Marcia

SIX months on from Cyclone Marcia and CQUniversity is still feeling the impact of the natural disaster.

Although the most urgent repairs at the university's Rockhampton and Yeppoon campuses were completed by March 2, hundreds of minor jobs remained.

CQUniversity spokesperson Marc Barnbaum said the less urgent repairs to internal and external parts of buildings, as well as electrics, had been ongoing since Marcia hit on February 20.

Mr Barnbaum said staff and students pulled together immediately in the wake of the cyclone to get the university running normally in just over a week.

With power out at the North Rockhampton campus for roughly a week, there were some cases where research samples were lost when refrigeration didn't work.

But Mr Barnbaum said the losses were not substantial and researchers were able to replicate the data.

CQUniversity received a grant to purchase a portable emergency generator to assist in future natural disasters.

The generator, which was delivered on July 31, will be stored at the North Rockhampton Campus.
