THE inaugural CQ Mega Lifestyle Expo is set to debut on the weekend with Minister for Northern Australia, Senator Matt Canavan officially opening the event at Callaghan Park at 10am on Saturday.

The three day expo, with over 140 exhibitors, including a strong mix of Rockhampton based businesses, was put together by local Catrina Trail.

"Catrina is to be congratulated for organising this impressive event," Mr Canavan said.

"She is having a go, taking a risk in pursuit of a dream and promoting this wonderful region we live in. That's an admirable entrepreneurial spirit."

Catrina, who resigned from her full time job to begin a career in events management, said she had found putting together a mega expo both highly challenging and rewarding.

"When I first started talking to businesses about showcasing Central Queensland's fantastic lifestyle and the businesses that can show you ways to take greater advantage of it, many tried to discourage me, citing the tough economy and mining downturn, but Central Queensland is much more than just mining," she said.

"I felt an expo promoting the lifestyle and diversity of the region would help make more people positive, optimistic about its outlook.

"Hopefully over the three days we'll go some way to achieving this."

The CQ Mega Lifestyle Expo is on until Sunday.

Saturday's program includes performances by local bands Pandemic from 3pm and Mikka Scene at 6.15pm.

This is in conjunction with the Luna Markets and international food fare which runs till 9.00pm.
