It won't be a drag at CQ Fair Day

THEY'RE loud, they're proud and they're set to draw a crowd.

Tomorrow CQUniversity will host Central Queensland's first CQ Fair Day for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community and judging by the event's Facebook popularity it could draw a crowd of 200-plus.

Ric Stumpf, head of the CQ Fair Day Committee, said he expected travellers from as far as Longreach, Mackay and Gladstone.

One of the big drawcards is MC Vanessa Wagner, who is known from Celebrity Big Brother and her work covering Sydney's Mardi Gras.

The proceedings will start at 11am on the lawn outside the refectory at the Rockhampton campus.

Market stalls will offer health and services information as well as Rockhampton Regional Council's ‘Be Heard' activities, giving residents the opportunity to share their concerns with the council.

Committee member Josh Donovan said it would be fun for the whole family.

“It's a family fun day, there'll be entertainment for the kids, like a jumping castle and we welcome anyone to come along,” Josh said.

Ric said he hoped the day would become a regular event.

“I see it as a way to help bring the regional gay community together and we're hoping for a huge crowd that see the chance for access to information, fun and entertainment,” Ric said.

“As someone who lives in regional Queensland and an active member of the gay community, I felt that many of us in the country just did not have anything like this event that many in the large cities have annually.”

The event will be followed by Club Rok at the Anchor Hotel from 9.30pm and Club Rok Recovery from 10am Sunday at the same venue.
