Coutts no match for Vollmer

AUSTRALIA'S Alicia Coutts has claimed a bronze medal after finishing behind world record breaker Dana Vollmer in the women's 100 metre butterfly.

Coutts was floundering in eighth place at the turn, but powered home to finish behind American Vollmer and China's Ying Lu.

"I'm happy with a medal but disappointed with the swim," Coutts said.

Coutts' finish was impressive but had nothing on the world breaking efforts of Vollmer.

The favourite had a mild first 50 metres, turning for home in third place, but from there said goodbye to the rest of the field and hello to a new world record of 26.39.

"I feel so incredible right now," Vollmer said.

"I had a really bad finish ... and definitely think i can go faster."
