County spelling bee makes for a hilarious musical

TOOWOOMBA theatre lovers were left in stitches watching the recent performance of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

The hilarious Tony Award winning musical comedy was performed by the Shoebox Theatre Company and 10 of Toowoomba's finest musical theatre performers.

The show tells the story of an eclectic group of six mid-pubescents (played by adult performers) who vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime.

Director Simon Duncan said the show, performed at the Empire Theatre, was fantastic.

"We had great feed back and great audience participation,” he said.

He said that audience participation was a highlight for the cast of the show.

"It changes every show so they (the cast) have to think on their feet.”
