Counting the cost of pointless survey

WITH two more months to go before the results are known of this sham non-binding postal survey, on whether same-sex couples should have the equal right to marry, many frontline mental health services are being stretched to the limit coping with an upsurge in LGBTI people seeking help.

The Leader of the Opposition has called on the Turnbull government to increase funding for the relevant services.

The Minister for Health responded by saying that they had - fine weasel words as the extra funding was granted back in May - before this farce commenced and triggered demands for help.

Advocates of same-sex marriage wanted a free vote in parliament because they feared a national debate would spawn the dreadful divisive campaign as is being rolled out now.

The Prime Minister and his government are internally divided on this issue so abrogated their responsibility to the nation.

It is vital that they take full responsibility for the damage of their ill-considered actions and support the LGBTI community by helping them through this difficult time.
