Counting crows is no sleep remedy for Stan Starsky
ALL Stan Starsky wants is a good night's sleep.
The Point Vernon homeowner says a murder of crows nesting in his neighbourhood is getting out of control.
"When I moved here more than five years ago, there were only about 25 or 30 of them - now it's 300 plus," Mr Starsky said.
The birds begin crowing at the break of day, sometimes as early as 4.30am in the summer months.
He said the racket generally stopped by about 7am before it returned again at sundown, and on a full-moon, could continue until 2am.
Now, the Point Vernon man has taken his fight to the council, in the hope he can get some peace and quiet.
He does not want to see the crows harmed but would like action taken, as it was last year with a population of lorikeets along the Esplanade.
He said he started a petition and within half an hour, had got the required signatures needed for the council to investigate.
Division 6 councillor Trevor McDonald said the council would have to discuss the matter with the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection because the crows were native birds.
