Counterfeit notes circulating Rockhampton, police warn

ROCKHAMPTON police are urging businesses to be on the look out for fake money.

During the last two months police have recorded seven incidents in Rockhampton involving $20, $50 and $100 fake notes.

Characteristics that identify the notes as being counterfeit are:

  • The clear window on the note appears to be sticky tape or similar. The sticky tape is raised in some areas.
  • The stars on the clear window appear to have been hand painted with a white paint.
  • The counterfeit notes are smaller in dimension than legal notes.
  • The areas on the counterfeit paper notes which have been cut out for the clear windows are not precise.
  • The counterfeit notes appear to be colour photocopies and wet, running ink can be seen on some areas of the notes.
  • The counterfeit notes are paper and not polymer.
