Council to foster new NBN industry

NEW community and business opportunities from the rollout of NBN technology will find a region ready to take full advantage of them, if Gympie Regional Council plans come to fruition.

A report to tomorrow's general meeting of councillors seeks council endorsement for a plan to encourage community groups and businesses to act promptly on the new opportunities expected from faster and more available internet access.

The report says the council's plan was developed in direct consultation with businesses through focus group meetings and personal interviews.

Councillors will be asked to take the policy's needs into consideration when it prepares future council budgets.
