Could this idea help business?

IT'S one thing to bring tourists to our region, but it takes work to maximise their spend.

One idea involves running guided tours through our smaller towns and villages.

Former councillor Barry Green runs a tour around Nanango and said the whole region could benefit.

"There's hundreds of things you can take them to. It's a tourist goldmine,” Mr Green said.

His current tours started during the 2016 Nanango Music Muster, which cost a dollar.

"I used to run it as business years ago doing tours of the whole South Burnett, Kingsley Tours it was called,” Mr Green said.

"Murgon has a hell of a lot stuff, you know Boat Mountain has great views.

"There's a handcut railway tunnel at Cooyar, historic churches, Ringsfield House, the old gold mines, the dams and national parks to name a few.

"We'd take them out the gardens where the Chinese first planted peanuts.”

The small town of Gallangowan was popular.

"They have a tower in the forestry out there and on a clear day you could see right to the coast,” he said.

"A lot of people would come out from Brisbane on organised golf days, it has a unique golf course.”

Mayor Keith Campbell said tours were an untapped source of revenue.

"Tourism is one of the markets within the area that is less co-ordinated and there are elements of it that could be further developed,” Cr Campbell said.

"The idea of tours hits the nail on the head.”
