Cornered thieves ram police car

FIVE men are assisting police with inquiries after they allegedly tried to run down two police officers on the Pacific Motorway at Slacks Creek last night.

It is alleged that the owner of a Bayliss Road, Heritage Park grocery store disturbed thieves who were attempting to gain entry to his store around 11.25pm, forcing them to flee in a vehicle.

Patrolling police attempted to intercept the car on Loganlea Road a short time later but the car sped off.

Shortly before midnight a police patrol observed the vehicle enter a disused dead-end exit of the M1 at Slacks Creek.

The police car followed the car and attempted to intercept it.

The vehicle then reversed and rammed into the police car damaging the front end, before continuing to reverse down the disused exit.

The vehicle was allegedly intentionally driven at a police officer, who was on foot, with the officer forced to jump out of the way to avoid being struck by the vehicle.

The vehicle continued reversing and was again allegedly driven at a second officer who was on foot and standing near the police car, causing this officer to take evasive action to avoid being run down by the car.

The vehicle collided with the police car causing significant damage to the right hand side.

Three of the five males in the vehicle fled on foot while two were detained at the scene.

Extensive police patrols located the remaining three a short time later.
