Contract secured for Nambucca to Urunga Pacific Hwy upgrade
WORK is underway on next stage of the Nambucca to Urunga Pacific Hwy upgrade after building contracts were officially secured by the Abigroup.
The company, which was awarded a preliminary contract earlier this year, was given the green light last week to get on with the job.
A spokesman for Roads Maritime Safety said boundary fencing and geo-tech work was being carried out while design pans were finalised.
Major works are expected to start in August.
Preliminary contracts for the Oxley Hwy to Kundabung stretch were also awarded to Abigroup Baulderstone and Thiess Pty Ltd.
Both will work on detailed designs for the 23km section near Port Macquarie before a preferred tenderer is announced at the end of the year.
As of last month, 360kms of the Pacific Hwy duplication had been completed.
About 59km is currently being built and work on another 105kms is expected to begin within the next 12 months.
Another 46% of the deadly road, including the Woolgoolga to Ballina project, remains unfunded.
