Competition for manuscript to send Hector on an adventure

HE IS the face of Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal and thanks to a young, talented and creative Mackay student, he's found a new prominence.

The face of Hector the lump of coal is recognised across the region after his story was told last year by competition winner Emma Pattemore and printed in book form in the hundreds.

Now the competition Emma won is running again, giving school-aged students and an open-age section the chance of sharing another of Hector's stories with a $4000 prize pool.

Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal senior specialist public relations officer Sharon Johnston said entries had already opened and wouldn't close until June 13.

"The competition is for someone to create a manuscript for a picture book (about Hector)," Ms Johnston said.

"So that's a maximum of about 500 words."
