Coffs are pecked by Magpies
IF Sawtell-Toormina and Coffs Harbour thought the premiership was a two horse race then Port Macquarie made a big statement defeating Breakers by 76points.
Playing on home soil at Wayne Richards Park, the Magpies started with a flurry by kicking seven goals to nil in the first quarter and opened up a 64-point lead by the main break.
Breakers showed fight in the second half but the damage was done and the home side ran away convincing winners.
Fraser Carroll and Brendan Badenoch starred up forward for the winners kicking four goals each with Ed Smith booting three and Jesse Schmidt and Samuel Johnson each slotting two.
For Breakers, Nicklaus Stanlan-Velt continued his great form with three majors while Shaydan Close kicked two.
Port's sixth win now sees them enter the finals full confident of doing damage from third spot.
In the other match, Sawtell-Toormina tuned up for the finals with a comfortable victory over Grafton at Ellem Oval and locked in the minor premiership.
Saints booted eight goals in each of the second and third quarters to eventually run out 157point winners.
Best in front of the big sticks were Schwatz, Angel, Napier and Johnson.
Each kicked four majors while Anderson was the only multiple goal kicker for the Tigers with two.
Grafton finished the season winless.
The Sawtell-Toormina win keeps the club clear at the top of the table and now this powerhouse of North Coast AFL prepares for yet another premiership assault.
In the women's match, Port held off a spirited Coffs outfit.
Three goals to one in the first quarter gave Breakers ascendency and an unlikely sniff of their second victory for the season.
However, the Magpies clicked into gear and their defence really tightened up, only conceding four behinds in the second and third quarters.
The last quarter was telling with Port kicking four goals to one.
