Coast dominating tag state titles

OZTAG: Several Sunshine Coast sides are leading the way at the Oztag Senior State Cup, leading into today's crunch matches at the Kawana Sports Precinct.

The three-day tournament has attracted more than 3000 players, fans and officials, with sides battling for state honours and Queensland selection.

Among the Coast sides to fare well on day one of the tournament yesterday were Maroochydore and Caloundra open men's teams that were undefeated after two games.

Maroochydore is the reigning state champion after beating Townsville in last year's decider.

Tournament director Leigh de Jersey said Coast teams had been in the thick of the action.

"The Coast guys are doing really well," he said. "The Caloundra open girls are undefeated and are probably favourites to win the tournament. Saturday will be the big day."

Other Sunshine Coast teams to shine on day one were the Maroochydore and Caloundra 17 years boys and girls teams which were also undefeated.

"It's a huge occasion and things will really ramp up (today) before the finals."

The playoffs are set to be played tomorrow afternoon.
