THE latest Newspoll paints a dire picture for the Federal Coalition with the Turnbull Government set to lose dozens of seats at the next election.

Malcolm Turnbull's advantage over Labor Leader Bill Shorten is waning, according to the poll which was conducted for The Australian.

However while the Coalition looks set to lose the next election Turnbull is still more popular than Shorten.

The Prime Minister raked in a 41 per cent approval rating in the crucial preferred leader poll with Shorten tracking at 33 per cent. 

On the two party preferred measure the Coalition trails Labor by 47 to 53 per cent amidst widespread disunity in Liberal Party ranks where former Prime Minister Tony Abbott has drawn criticism for undermining the Party's current direction. 

Last night news broke of a push to have Mr Abbott shelved and given a plush post as High Commissioner to the UK. 

The Courier Mail reports Capricornia MP Michelle Landry as spruiking the controversial idea. 

"I was a big supporter of Tony Abbott and I was disappointed when he lost,'' Ms Landry said.

"Malcolm is doing a good job and he should be able to do his job.

"It's probably time for (Mr Abbott) to move on.

"There's been talk about the job offer in London."
