AUSSIE RULES: Summer sports are in full swing but newly elected president of the South Burnett Saints Andrew Foley is looking ahead to the 2019 footy season.

Foley is no stranger to the Saints' home at Lyle Vidler Oval, after serving as a former president and coach of the old Kingaroy Bulldogs club from 1988 through to 1997.

Now residing in Toowoomba, he has been a supporter of the Saints as a sponsor and organising the club's annual heritage day and he is looking forward to stepping up as president and helping build the club.

"As soon as there was a footy club playing at Lyle Vidler I was going to support it," he said.

"I thought the best way to get back involved in footy is to help my old club.

"I love the game and I always love the club at Kingaroy whether it be the old Bulldogs or the Saints it is a way to be involved in something you love with good people."

As president Foley is looking to maintain the family friendly atmosphere at the club and make the Saints a club the whole community can be involved in.

"There is a really good vibe around the club and we want to make it the place to try out and have a go." he said.

One of the biggest obstacles to the men's teams premiership hopes in 2018 was their changing roster of players, with the team having a different line up from week to week.

Leading into the season Foley said the club will have a focus on having their presence in the community felt and looking to recruit players for the men's and women's teams as well as volunteers and coaches.

"We are not trying to recruit champion players but recruit locally and retain our existing players," he said.

He will bring a wealth of knowledge to the club as a four years on the Darling Downs executive including two seasons as league president.

Having a president based Toowoomba could be to the advantage of the club who play in the Darling Downs AFL league.

Foley will be the club delegate at league meetings as well as being on the ground in Toowoomba on game day.

"I have put a lot of thought into it. The club plays in the Toowoomba competition and the weakest games the ones we play are in Toowoomba so I will be at the games and hope to also recruit Toowoomba based volunteers for the club," he said.
