WHILE it was not their intention, parents Carey and Lauren Blackburn are bang on trend with their baby naming.

The names of their two children, William, 6, and Charlotte, 2, made it on the list of the most popular girl's and boy's names in Queensland for 2012.

Charlotte's name came in second on the top 10 most popular girl's names, following Ruby in top spot.

William's was third on the list of boy's names, dominated by Jack and Cooper.

Mrs Blackburn said the return to traditional names for children was sentimental - William was Mr Carey's grandfather's name.

"When he was born it suited him," she said.

"I think William and Charlotte are nice sounding old-school names. We liked the formality of them."

Charlotte gets called Charlie and William is known as Will.

"We wanted to give them a nice name that can be shortened," Mrs Blackburn added.

Like many parents, the Blackburns did not know for sure what their babies names would be until they saw them.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Jarrod Bleijie speculated whether Queensland's most popular baby names were an indication of what the expecting Royal couple might pick.

"It can be challenging to find the right name for a child - a dilemma the young royals will no doubt be going through over the next few months," he said

While in Gympie it appears Madison and Max are popular names, they didn't make it onto the lists, which included Chloe, Amelia, Mia, Liam, Lachlan and Oliver.
