Clancy nets another gold on the world stage

BEACH VOLLEYBALL: Kingaroy's Taliqua Clancy has won gold for Australia in Indonesia alongside team mate Mariafe Artacho del Solar in the duo's third straight tournament.

They won the South Sumatera Governors Cup by defeating Kazakhstan in straight sets 21-14 and 21-18.

Clancy said they were proud of their performance as a team to take the win.

"It was a really good hustle today from both of us,” Clancy said.

"It got a bit close there in the end but we came together as a team, got the serving back in our game and brought the hustle again and we got the win.”

While the final score may suggest the team won comfortably, coach Simon Naismith said it was a goodfight by the Australians.

"The girls had to show resilience, trust and world-class skill yet againtoget the job done,” he said.

"We were challenged by Kazakhstan today, especially in the second set by their serve, but we stayed strong when down 12-16 to our game and turn the set around to get another great win.”

The duo have won 16 straight matches, playing 32 sets with zero losses.

The Australian teams will now return home for the domestic season and hopes of Commonwealth Games selection.
