City ballet teacher awarded prestigious scholarship

A TOOWOOMBA ballet teacher has become the first Queenslander to receive a teacher's scholarship to a prestigious ballet school.

Cam Newell is the co-founder and artistic director of the National Conservatoire Ballet Company and a principal teacher at the PCYC Dance Academy.

Yesterday Ms Newell was honoured with a teacher's scholarship to the Australian Ballet School.

She was hand picked by Marilyn Jones, who was Australia's first principal dancer and the founder and head of the Australian Institute of Classical Dance.

Ms Newell will be able to spend time at the Australian Ballet School, working alongside the school's directors, artistic directors, teachers and students to learn their teaching methods.

She will also be able to create a pathway for her own students in Toowoomba.
