Circus school has flipping great time

TYRONE O'Reilly is one of the North Burnett's true characters.

A unique individual who has flipped and somersaulted his way through life.

His natural curiosity and penchant for thrill-seeking took him to Sydney in his youth, where he skated half pipe professionally and made a buck coaching gymnastics on the side.

But home is where the heart is, and when it came time to settle down and raise a family he knew it had to be back in Monto.

Always a clown at heart, he has now made it a living.

As travelling circus performer and instructor he takes his act to shows around the North Burnett, Bundaberg and Rockhampton, and teaches kids at his circus and stunt school.

He and his troupe - Monto's youngest daredevils - put on a acrobatic performance for friends and family this Easter.

Mr O'Reilly is a firm believer in pushing the boundaries and said the circus is about getting out of your comfort-zone.

"Seeing the kids grow in confidence is what's most rewarding,” he said.

"What they learn here can translate into other skills, like sport or even academics.

"It gives them the confidence to know they can do things others can't.”

In his year of practice, Rhys Radel, 13, has mastered some impressive tricks and was excited for the chance to put them on show.

"It was fun but I was nervous at the start, there was lots of people,” he said.

"Front flips and back flips are my favourite.

"It took me a month before I landed one, but you're so happy when you do.

"I want to learn a 360 front flip next.”

Beginner classes are held from 4-6pm each Wednesday during the school term.
