Artists inspired by The Chronicle

A GROUP of Toowoomba art students has cut, torn and pasted The Chronicle and transformed it into a whole new publication.

The nine artists from the Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE photo imaging department were given the task of reproducing an edition of The Chronicle from May 5.

What resulted was a collection of zines that went on display at the TAFE yesterday.

Exhibition curator Lorelei Clark said she had been surprised by what the burgeoning artists had produced.

“It just started as a student project but there's a great variety because it's a personal response,” she said.

“Some are comical and some are serious.

“There's almost anything you can imagine.

“The newspaper has been cut up, ripped and torn, spray painted, words cut out and reassembled like ransom notes and so much more.”

The exhibition will remain open until June 5.
