My Kitchen Rules search for the next chef in mines

THE crib bag of a miner might contain last night's leftovers of savoury mince and a piece of buttered bread.

But that could change, because word on the chopping block from Channel 7's My Kitchen Rules is series producers want to take miners from the crib huts to the kitchen, replacing their hard hats with that of a chef.

Series producer Evan Wilkes told the CQ News they were hoping to tap into the coal seam and uncover the nation's next top talent.

"It's that great part of Australia. Miners have a lot of character and the big part of MKR is not only cooking, but the characters and I reckon there are a lot of miners who have great stories in and out of the kitchen," Mr Wilkes said.

"They're not afraid of hard work… and there are some pretty tough guys and girls and there is no reason they don't like to mix it up in the kitchen as well."

You could be mixing ingredients instead of explosives in the competitive cooking game as you serve up dishes to chef judges Pete Evans and Manu Feildel, in an opportunity Mr Wilkes said should not be missed.

"We are looking for Australia's best home cooks… people who are eager and essentially want to have a go and try out," he said.

"We're casting right now up until June 1 (and we) do filming in the second half of this year."

Mr Wilkes said they look at every application.

"We leave no stone unturned… we endeavour to speak to every single team that applies, and we reach out as far as we can," he said.

The show is hoping to reach the Highlands.

"That's what we're looking for. People from regional Australia. We don't just want cities represented," he said.
