BREAK IN: Thieves target empty building for copper

THE FORMER WIN News building was broken into this morning with thieves taking copper wiring.

A police spokesman said the Dean St building was broken into at approximately 2.30am.

Police later intercepted a motor vehicle that contained stolen property linked to the building.

The spokesman said two people were assisting police with their investigations.

It is not the first time the vacant building has been targeted with a suspected arson attempt at the site earlier this year.

On June 18, emergency crews were called to the site following reports of a fire.

A quarter of the building sustained damage during the blaze with police treating the incident as suspicious.

The building has also been extensively abused via graffiti and various damage.
