Jetstar schedule change to reduce some Melbourne services
COAST travellers already eyeing off a mid-year Melbourne escape take note.
Jetstar's off-peak period begins at the end of April and runs through to the end of June, meaning flight times will be varied from the Sunshine Coast.
Depending on when you fly you could have anywhere from two to four flight options, with some days offering only two evening flights, while most Saturdays appear to have three flights on offer departing from 11.45am through to 7.30pm.
Most weekdays and Sundays Jetstar will have two evening flights operating from the Coast, departing at 5.15pm and 7.30pm.
It's a slight change from the three flights per day currently operating, but a Jetstar spokeswoman said the changes were just a case of regular, seasonal adjustment - the same as those undertaken earlier this year and in previous years.
The spokeswoman said the flight schedules were adjusted to align with customer demand, with peak services provided on the Sunshine Coast around the summer and school holiday periods.
The changes to flight scheduling caught 72-year-old Buderim resident Laurie Cuthbert by surprise.
The ex-Victorian has lived on the Coast for the past 20 years.
He had his flights shifted in mid-May as a result of the changes, meaning he'll have to head to Melbourne a day earlier than planned with only evening flights available on the day he was due to depart.
It would've meant he missed a catch-up with old friends that evening as he was stuck in transit and compressing the rest of his trip, so he was headed down a day in advance to ensure he can see old friends and his beloved St Kilda after he was able to bring his flight forward at no extra cost.
He said he had a trip planned in August for a police reunion and some more AFL viewing and was expecting he'd have to head down a day early again.
Mr Cuthbert said it was frustrating as the evening flights meant a day effectively lost in travel if you were unable to fly down in the morning and it could cause issues trying to check-in to accommodation late, but he conceded it might be more attractive for business people to fly down the night before a meeting, spend the day in Melbourne and fly back to the Coast late the next afternoon.
The Jetstar spokeswoman said they gave customers the option to select other flights or request a refund if they were affected by the changes to flight schedules.
Jetstar offers direct flights to Sydney, Melbourne and more recently to Adelaide from the Sunshine Coast.
