Changes and new gongs in store for the 2016 Logie Awards

CHANGES are afoot for next year's Logie Awards.

The publicly-voted awards will change from Most Popular to Best Awards, while the industry-voted awards will continue to be called Most Outstanding.

Three new awards have also been added to the night.

A viewer-voted award will be introduced for Best News Panel or A Current Affairs Program, and organisers will also reinstate Best Factual.

There will also be two new industry-voted awards for Most Outstanding Supporting Actor and Most Outstanding Supporting Actress.

The 58th annual awards, honouring the best in Australian television, will be held at Melbourne's Crown Entertainment Complex on Sunday May 8 and broadcast on Channel 9.

Online TV programs will be eligible for Logies for the first time, with organisers announcing they would accept original Australian program submissions from subscription streaming services like Netflix, Presto and Stan.

Public voting for the 2016 Logie Awards will open on Monday November 16.  Voters will have until January 17, 2016 to cast their vote.
