ABOUT 50 munchkins, jitterbugs and monkeys are ready to follow the yellow brick road to the Emerald City this weekend, with the South Burnett Musical and Comedy Society's production of The Wizard of Oz set to open at the Kingaroy Town Hall.

For 27-year-old Kieran Boynton, playing Dorothy in the production was a special moment.

"To bring it to life here on stage with my husband (Brad Boynton, who is playing the Lion) is amazing,” she said.

"We met when he performed this show five years ago, so now to do it together is really special.

"It's pretty amazing, she's such an iconic character.”

With about 52 cast members, there are more than 200 costumes for the show, some of which came from the 2000 QPAC production, which starred Nikki Webster.

"I've done a few productions with the society previously but this one has lifted the bar with everything - with the sound, the lighting, the digital background, the sets, they look amazing,” Mrs Boynton said.

"It will set the bar for all of our shows next year and beyond.”

The Wizard of Oz opens on Friday night at the Kingaroy Town Hall.
