BASKETBALL: McDonalds Gladstone Port City Power's Alicia Carline will be a central figure to the team's championships aspirations as the pointy end of the season approaches.

Her team take on fourth-placed Townsville Flames today from 6.30pm in Townsville and the Power back up against Cairns Dolphins (seventh) tomorrow from 6pm.

Forward Carline joins Tabatha Richardson-Smith, Cassie Rochel, Kayla Kiriau as one of several new faces to the fifth-ranked Power and she said is getting used to the style of play.

"It's taken a little while just getting used to how used to other people play, but now I feel a whole lot more comfortable," Carline said.

"I know when the girls are going to cut and when they're going to drive."

Carline is averaging 6.6ppg and almost five rebounds and she said her and fellow post player Rochel are working well together.

"She's awesome to play and we usually end up in a high-low situation where I can pass the ball to her and she's so long that it's hard to defend her," she said. Carline played division one college basketball in the US as well as having stints in Spain and New Zealand.

Meanwhile Gladstone Port City Power have tough matches against Townsville Heat (third) and fifth-placed Cairns Marlins today and tomorrow from 8.30pm and 8pm respectively.
