Carina Speedway is ready for new season

MOTORSPORT: After launching its new season, Carina Speedway believes there is something for everyone this year.

On Friday the Speedway officially kick started its new season at AutoBahn Bundaberg, which has now become the new naming rights sponsor of Carina.

During the afternoon event cars were put on show for the fans with drivers also available for autographs.

There was also an outline of what will happen at the speedway over the next few months when the season start in under two weeks.

In all there will be 18 meetings for the speedway - six for bikes and 12 for cars.

During those events there will also be demolition derbies, which come to Carina for the first time since it reopened.

Finally Bundy Burnouts will also be introduced at some stage this year.

After a turbulent time during the off-season, with the threats of the speedway closing, track promoter Pete Basmadjian said it was good to be back.

"It's been a tough off season for all of us," he said.

"We've had some really good support from sponsors and fans so that has been pleasing."

With more events on the calendar, Basmadjian said the aim was to cater to all fans, not just a few.

"Our focus used to be on big events and big numbers," he said.

"Now we are having more events so people know racing is on every couple of weeks."

Prices have also been reduced with adults now $20 and concession getting in for $15.

There are also annual passes still available up until the first couple of events of the season.

The first event of the new season will be held on September 3 with the bikes competing before the cars race the following weekend on September 10.
