Careys snag another crown at Sausage King titles

CAREY Bros butchers have again reigned supreme at the Sausage King titles, taking out the top prize with a new gourmet chicken sausage.

The locally owned and operated butchery won the Outback Region Sausage King competition in Oakey for their butter chicken sausages.

Carey Bros owner Wayne Carey said it was always a good feeling to win a Sausage King title.

"It's something we've always prided ourselves on - the sausages," he said.

"We use fresh quality ingredients without taking any shortcuts."

The prize-winning sausages were made by butcher Sam Dight, who has been working with Carey Bros for 10 years.

Mr Dight said he thought he'd try something different when he came up with the butter chicken sausages.

"Butter chicken is a favourite for many people," he said.

"I really like them - a lot of people are really raving about them."

The Carey Bros team will now progress to the Queensland titles on July 6, with a win there guaranteeing them a place in the national finals held in Adelaide.

The secret to a good sausage is quality products, according to Mr Dight.

"Making sausages is really easy," he said.

"Once you know what you're doing it's not hard."

Carey's award winning butter chicken sausages are available at the Carey Bros butchers in Locke St for $11.50/kg.
