A CAR has flipped onto its roof after a crash with a truck on the Monash Freeway at Chadstone, causing peak hour traffic chaos for those commuting into the city.

The smash happened about 6.48am outbound at Warrigal Rd in Chadstone with two right lanes closed and one lane was also closed inbound.

VicRoads reports it will take 42 minutes to travel 10km from Kings Way to Toorak Rd outbound about 8.30am.

"We had a crash between a car and a truck on the outbound lanes of the Monash with two lanes still closed but we have reopened the lane heading into the city but traffic has backed up," VicRoads spokesman Chris Miller said.

There were significant delays for people heading to the city but they were hoping for it to clear by 8am.

"Traffic is queued all the way back to Belgrave Hallam Rd so I'd be advising people to get off at the Princes Highway and onto Dandenong Rd if they're aiming for the city," Mr Miller said.

Paramedics were called to the crash but no emergency care was needed and no one was taken to hospital, an Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said.
