CQ Capras set to tackle Burleigh Bears
JASON Hetherington will return to the coaching post for his Central Queensland Capras this weekend as the squad heads south to tackle Burleigh Bears with the clash televised live on Channel 9.
Coming off the back of a 22-12 loss to Souths Logan Magpies, the Capras are keen to redeem themselves with Hetherington back at the helm after returning from Queensland Origin duty. Assistant coach Damien Seibold ran the show while Hetherington was absent, and the head coach said all reports from Seibold had been of a strong training regime this week.
Hetherington said he had put the team through their paces with a focus on fine tuning defence and putting last week's loss behind them at training yesterday.
"I will be talking heavily on defence, it's the most important part of our game as well as speed off the line and aggression in the tackle," Hetherington said.
"We have to get over last week's frustration and move forward to be consistent in our defence, with our intensity and focus on having a strong start."
The last time these two teams met, Capras took the glory over the Bears and Hetherington said he was hoping for a repeat performance.
"We won in the first round and it would be good to get another win but we've both improved so it will be a different game," he said.
"Burleigh will be well-topped up with Titans players but we can certainly do it if we stick with it."
The Bears were satisfied to hold on in their game against Redcliffe last week and come away with a draw. They will be hopeful of going one better this week.
Hetherington realised there would be some extra pressure in this game with both teams under the watchful eyes of rugby league fans around the nation.
"The televised game certainly brings more pressure and I'll be reminding the boys of that," he said.
"They will be under the microscope; the Capras have created a lot of talk around the state lately, there was plenty of talk about the Capras in the Origin camp."
With Capras players Mick Esdale and Arlin Paki still out with injury, the squad welcomes back Guy Williams from a six-month stint playing in France, and will return via the bench.
