Cannonvale and Airlie in the dark

SOME Airlie Beach and Cannonvale residents experienced an unappreciated loss of power this afternoon.

Ergon Energy Corporate Communications Manager Bob Pleash said around 3.20pm, up to 2000 customers had their power interrupted.

Mr Pleash said a malfunction was to blame.

"(This) happened after a high voltage piece of equipment at the Cannonvale sub-station tripped," he said.

Ergon crews were quick to respond with power returning in under an hour.

Investigations are continuing to determine the original cause of the equipment malfunction.
