CQUNIVERSITY Noosa campus is now a venue for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander networking events which aim to inspire current and future students to talk about the rewards and challenges of undergraduate study.

The 'Deadly Conversations' networking events have been started by Sunshine Coast student and CQUni Student Representative Council member April Cunningham, embracing the spirit of the 2018 NAIDOC theme 'Because of her we can'.

The first event took place in July when participants included Nursing graduates, lecturers and current students all wishing to share stories.The next networking event at CQUniversity Noosa (Building C, 90 Goodchap Street, Noosaville) will take place on Tuesday, 20 November between4pm and 5 pm. All current and future students and graduates are welcome.　

Ms Cunningham, a proud Noonuccal woman completing a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood), remarked that we all need role models.

"It was a real inspiration to speak with other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents who have completed their undergraduate degrees”.

During a busy year as a Global Voices delegate, Ms Cunningham visited Canberra for briefings before attending the OECD World Forum in Paris.

She has also presented locally at the Sunshine Coast Pecha Kucha Night about diversity within the community, all whilst balancing motherhood with a young child.

Ms Cunningham admits that "life can be hectic at times” but states that she is committed to providing opportunities for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community to share a strong collective story.
