BYRON Bay is NSW's most expensive tourist destination and rates in price among some of the most costly in the world, a new report shows.

The report by Hotels.com found Byron Bay cost visitors an average $192 per night for accommodation. The average price in Sydney was a comparatively low $181 per night.

By comparison, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, and San Francisco all had cheaper accommodation.
