Bypass, not lights: Transport Workers' Union
TRANSPORT Workers' Union state secretary Peter Biagini and regional organiser Brendan Bogle will lead a delegation of drivers to the lights on the range public meeting tonight.
Mr Biagini will express the union's concern for stopping heavy vehicles on the already dangerous Toowoomba Range.
"This was a ridiculous decision by Main Roads and the public outcry is justified," Mr Biagini said.
"Instead of pushing ahead with the much needed Toowoomba Range Bypass, Main Roads wants to introduce infrastructure that will add congestion and make the roads more dangerous."
"Toowoomba residents are frustrated.
"This government has been quiet on the bypass and we want to know why.
"The bypass is critical to the future of Toowoomba, the people want it and the road users want it.
"This is the perfect opportunity for Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson to show the governments hand and actually do something for Queensland.
"The bypass must get the go-ahead to divert the major traffic off the range."
The TWU will represent its members who face the troubles the range and what this lights decision means.
"Safety is our priority and Minister Emerson must step up for the people of this state and revise this traffic light decision."
The meeting begins at 7pm at St Luke's Anglican Church.
