Bruce Highway commute will cost drivers how much?

THE Bruce Highway is set to become so congested it will cost Coast commuters $256,000 a day in lost productivity by 2031.

The Sunshine Coast Daily reported a new report from Infrastructure Australia found the stretch of Bruce Highway from Sippy Downs to Mango Hill was set to become the third worst in the state, with motorists to lose more than 12,000 hours stuck in traffic.

The Urban Transport Crowding and Congestion Australian Infrastructure Audit 2019 revealed the alarming figures, sparking renewed calls for urgent action to begin rail duplication.

Shadow State Development Minister and Glass House MP Andrew Powell said the report findings were figures the State Government "should be ashamed of".

He called on Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to fund the Sunshine Coast rail duplication project, and commit to Bruce Highway upgrades.

He declared congestion was now "at crisis point" in the region.
