Brisbane's not biting on the mouth from the south

HE MIGHT be the King of Talkback in Sydney but Alan Jones continues to have trouble finding a Brisbane audience.

The most recent Gfk ratings survey has Jones' Queensland station 4BC dropping another 2000 listeners as ABC612 which has Spencer Howson in the breakfast spot continues to strengthen its position.

The state owned broadcaster now enjoys an early morning audience of 57,000 listeners - up from 55,000 during the last survey period.

Meanwhile 4BC which, has seen many of its Brisbane staff get let go as the station was merged with John Singleton's 2GB last year, enjoys an audience of 22,000.

The survey also shows the majority of the Brisbane audience listen to FM stations - 97.3FM and NOVA106.9 both came in as the second and third most listened to stations with respective audiences of 53,000 and 43,000 people during the breakfast slot.

In total the survey said 379,000 people tune into the radio in Brisbane each morning.

The Gfk survey did not look at regional Queensland where Jones reportedly has a large audience.
