Brisbane cooks make the cut
TWO Queenslanders have made the MasterChef Top 10.
After last night's double elimination, which saw Amina Elshafei and Jules Pike leave the competition, Brisbane's Mindi Woods and Julia Taylor were through to the final weeks of the competition.
It's a good result for the Sunshine State considering there were only three Queenslanders in the Top 24.
"Making the Top 10 was the first huge milestone in MasterChef for me," said Taylor.
"It's like the gateway to finals week and leaves me feeling so inspired and excited for what's to come.
"But after seeing someone as fantastic as Amina go home, it makes me nervous and I think anything can happen."
The 10 lucky amateur chefs also learned they would be travelling to Italy.
Sunday's show will see the contestants meet up with judges Matt Preston, Gary Mehigan and George Calombaris in Rome for a week of Italian-themed challenges.
"Food is an integral way of life for Italians and I can't wait to land on Italian soil and talk to the locals. They're all so passionate about food and cooking," said Taylor, who has visited Italy before.
"The thought of going to Italy on MasterChef makes me so excited to think of where we'll visit and who we'll meet, because it's not always easy to find delicious, authentic food as a tourist."
MasterChef's Italy Week starts on Sunday at 7.30pm on Ten.
