Brigette eyeing surf girl crown

BRIGETTE Seymour is dreaming of being crowned Jupiters Summer Surf Girl 2012.

But although recognition for her fundraising efforts would be nice, she is not doing it for the title.

The 20-year-old Buderim girl has been working hard for nine months as the Alex Surf Club's Summer Surf Girl to raise funds for surf lifesaving clubs and branches throughout Queensland while juggling a biomedical science degree at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

Brigette is going up against 19 Summer Surf Girls from all over Queensland.

She hopes her dedication to the cause and funds raised will make it hard for the judges to resist her.

"I have put in 110% effort and learnt a lot along the way," she said.

The volunteer lifesaver has been at the forefront of many surf rescues in her 12 seasons in the yellow and red uniform.

"Hopefully my lifesaving background will help," Brigette said.

But now the brunette beauty is dedicated to educating beachgoers.

"As lifesavers we help people when they are in trouble but ideally we want to prevent beachgoers from getting into trouble," Brigette said.

The finals for the annual awareness program will be held at Jupiters Hotel and Casino on the Gold Coast from May 9 to 12.

"It has been an enriching and life-changing experience," Brigette said.
