Ute spills liquid acid at Slade Point

UPDATE 12.50PM: TRAFFIC is backed up in both directions on Keeleys Road, Slade Point after a ute lost its load on the roadway. 

A QFES spokesman said two crews were on scene cleaning up the spill, which is about 50m from the Keeleys Rd intersection. 

"The ute was coming off Keeleys Rd onto Slade Point Rd and lost the load," the spokesman said. 

"The ute went around a bend and a side door opened and it spilled approximately 15 litres of hydrochloric acid.

"They have naturalised the spill with sodium bicarbonate and will test the material for toxicity." 

Queensland Ambulance and Queensland Police crews have also arrived at the scene. 

BREAKING 12.40PM: EMERGENCY services are on scene at Slade Point where a load of liquid acid has been spilt on the road.

About 12.30pm, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services responded to Keeleys Road after a ute lost a load of approximately 15L of hydrochloric acid on the roadway.

The road has been closed in both directions as crews neutralise the spill with sodium bicarbonate.
