Boys and girls, don your bibs
NOMINATIONS are now open for Monto Netball Association's 2019 night fixtures competition.
Games will begin on Wednesday, February 20, with the length of the competition determined by the number of nominated teams, though usually running for 21 weeks plus finals.
Secretary Tara Harm said this year, the competition will feature quarter- and semi-finals for the first time.
"We used to go straight into a grand final due to time but the players really enjoy the competition so we're hoping this will create more suspense and extend the competition rather than ending abruptly.”
Teams require a minimum of seven players to nominate and must also put forward a captain, who will be responsible for ensuring the payment of ball fees, correct listing on team sheets of players, coordinating bibs and selecting the opposition best and fairest after each game.
Teams are mixed, but while a team may nominate as many male players as they like, only three may be on the court at once.
Ms Harm said the men especially enjoy playing and add "intrigue” and more of a competitive edge to the social game.
Ms Harm said, if you don't have a team but are keen on playing, to get in touch with her, as she already has a list of loose players going.
"We might even be able to create a whole extra team if there's enough interest.”
Game times will be at 6.15pm and 7.15pm on Wednesdays, with 10 minute quarters, although this is again dependent on team numbers.
Games won't be played during school holidays and State of Origin.
When rostered, teams must provide two scorers.
While membership and ball fees won't be finalised until the AGM on Wednesday, February 6, they will be the "same or less than 2018.”
The draw will be published through the MyNetball app.
Teams can nominate via the Monto Netball Association's Facebook page, by emailing montonetball@hotmail.com, or contacting secretary Tara Harm on 0457 597 966.
Nomination close on Tuesday, February 12.
