BARGAIN GUIDE: 5 trendy second-hand fashion boutiques

TOOWOOMBA'S boutique and second-hand clothing stores are becoming destination shops as residents seek out the perfect work and occasion-wear.

Repeat Offenderz owner Rachel Bailey said her store had been popular since it opened, with a consistent stream of customers.

The store is planning to expand its opening hours to include Sunday trade.

She said the region had embraced second-hand boutiques sprinkled throughout the city.

Where to shop

  1. Alice in Arcade Land: 4/191 Margaret St, open Tuesday-Saturday
  2. Ruby Red Industries: Next market on Saturday, August 27 from 9am until 2pm at Ground Up Espresso lane
  3. The ClothesLine: 2 Mann St, beside Hannas' back entrance, open from Tuesday to Saturday
  4. Recollections Boutique: 2/263 Margaret St
  5. Collectables: 2 Station St, Toowoomba

As the store became more established Ms Bailey has become much more fussy about clothing she stocks.

Toowoomba shoppers were looking for the "quirky, edgy, hipster, and quality" fashions, she said.

Customers were looking for alternative fashion that would set them apart from wearing what was found in major chains.

"It's not cool to be involved in fast-fashion disposable culture any more," she said.

"The other boutiques reinforce that it's really becoming mainstream."

The store is stocked by Toowoomba and Brisbane suppliers and is run as a sustainable local business.

Ms Bailey said the she had an advantage at her Southtown Shopping Centre store with plenty of parking options.

The business is celebrating its first anniversary with two free high-teas in-store on August 27 from 10am-2pm and 2pm-4pm.
