Borallon jail to reopen as training centre

CORRECTIVE Services Minister Jo-Ann Miller says Borallon prison will be reincarnated as a leader in the rehabilitation of young offenders.

The Member for Bundamba was at a Market Information Day at the former prison today where 100 business operators had the opportunity to learn about how they could become part of the education and skills programs that will be staged at the facility.

Ms Miller said that when the refurbished prison reopened next year as the Borallon Training and Correctional Centre, it would specialise in equipping prisoners with the skills to find work.

"The main objective is to provide a safe and secure environment for prisoners where they can be prepared for successful parole or a return to the community," Ms Miller said.
