From boot camps to brain maps
Personal trainer Trish Edwards is set to unleash a first for our region that certainly has people thinking.
The Mackay performance coach's upcoming neuro- fitness workshops aim to deconstruct participants' underlying behavioural patterns.
"I have a science background and used to manage an environmental laboratory so eight years after moving into the health and fitness side of things, I became curious as to why we work, react and handle our emotions the way we do," she said.
As a result Ms Edwards went on to study neuro science.
Seeing people in this region failing to live their lives to their full potential motivated her to putting what she has learned into practice.
"It seems that there's a lot of impending doom and gloom in the market at the moment...
"A lot of people are in this auto-pilot haze to just get by and function," she said.
"There is a difference between good and bad stress, but if you're over exposed to long-term perceived stress, it can really impact on your performance.
"Your sleep patterns are interrupted, your immune system changes, as well as your digestion."
The Active Adrenalin founder and performance coach said her workshop, Neurofitness: Brain-Body- Balance, would break down people's natural preferred behaviours and give an insight into how participants could work towards changing their response to stress.
"I will be giving them strategies on how to regulate their emotions," Ms Edwards said.
"It's about understanding what impact their thoughts and their emotions have on their performance.
"Once we understand what really drives our subconscious, we can then look at influencing that."
Ms Edwards hopes her one-day sessions, on May 28 and 29, will eventually be incorporated in the workplace.
"A big stress we have is change and downsizing at work... I want to explain the science behind how people can react, and behavioural changes, instead of just surviving."
