Boot camp prepares students for upcoming drama festival
THE Sunshine Coast Schools’ Drama Festival annual boot camp is on tomorrow.
More than 100 eager school students from across the region will come together for a full day of workshops.
Four professional actors – Kevin Kiernan-Molloy, Jeremy Niedeck, Nathan Stoneham and Lauren Jackson (originally from the Sunshine Coast) – will guide and mentor students in the development of their artistic acting journey.
New creative relationships will be formed between students and teachers from schools in preparation for the drama festival in late July.
The festival explores the actor’s craft and the drama students’ use of characterisation, body and voice in the performance space.
The focus remains squarely on the drama students’ commitment to the material and their ability to communicate authentically with the audience.
Overall, the festival aims to showcase quality, raw and honest theatre emerging from Coast drama classrooms. Schools are encouraged to avoid technical wizardry and instead share the magic of the dramatic imagination and creativity.
