ESSENDON has completed the second of its three high profile trade moves during this year's exchange period, finalising a deal for Gold Coast running defender Adam Saad.

The Bombers parted with a future second-round draft pick in exchange for the 23-year-old Saad, who has requested a trade back to his native Victoria due to family reasons.

It means Essendon still holds Picks 25 and 30, leaving the door open for a potential trade with the Western Bulldogs for forward Jake Stringer.

Earlier last week, Essendon secured a deal for GWS forward Devon Smith. However, a move for Stringer still hangs in the balance.

"It's really exciting and humbling to finally be on Essendon's list, I'm really grateful for the opportunity they have given me," Saad said.

"As soon as I spoke to Essendon, I felt at home straight away.

"I'm really excited to be a part of such a great culture and club and I'm excited by the list and what we're striving to do.

"I'm looking forward to coming in and earning the respect of my teammates, the coaches and everyone at the club, and trying to improve every day."

Saad played 48 games in three years for Gold Coast after being recruited to the club in 2015.
