Bob Hawke, 86, wants voluntary euthanasia to be legalised

AT 86-years-old Bob Hawke is talking about voluntary euthanasia.

And the man known as Australia's most popular Prime Minister wants it legalised.

Known for his pragmatic and groundbreaking approach to politics (among many things his government floated the dollar, brought in Medicare  and  announced  Advance Australia Fair as  national anthem).

Late last year, he advocated for nuclear waste storage in remote areas of Australia.

This week, he told ABC RN presenter Fran Kelly, that he believed it to be moral and unethical to see people suffer terrible pain and for quasi religious and moral reasons to deny them peace.

He also accused politicians of not being brave. He they were responding to  a few, rather than the majority of voices who wanted voluntary euthanasia legalised.

Has Bob Hawke captured the voice of the nation?
