The Block keeps Seven's X Factor at bay

REALITY renovation series The Block has managed to fend off ratings newcomer The X Factor in the competitive 7.30pm timeslot.

The Block's master bedroom and dressing room reveals, pushed back to Monday because of Sunday's NRL grand final, was the most-watched non-news program of last night.

The Block attracted 1.069 million viewers across the five metro cities, compared to 904,000 for the debut of the new season of The X Factor.

It was a tighter contest between Seven and Nine's new Aussie dramas Hyde & Seek and The Secret Daughter, which drew 878,000 and 899,000 viewers respectively.

Ten's Australian Survivor, which was up against The Block and The X Factor, was the 16th most watched show of the night behind strong current affairs offerings from the ABC's Australian Story and 7.30 programs.

The X Factor should gain back some ground tonight from The Block, which has always rated best during its weekly room reveal episodes.

Todd Sampson's new science adventure series Body Hack enters the fray tonight, debuting at 9pm on Channel 10.
