Bishop’s fancy flight referred to Federal Police

THE Labor Party has referred Speaker Bronwyn Bishop's $5000 travel claim for a helicopter flight last year to the Federal Police.

The referral of the matter would test whether the claim was fair, Labor frontbencher Tony Burke said.

Mrs Bishop has already repaid as well as a 25% loading.

Mr Burke said a form that Mrs Bishop would have had to sign to approve the costly flight between Melbourne and Geelong might have been made under false pretences.

He said if the Speaker had nothing to hide her office would release the form, but it could amount to a "criminal" act if she had claimed it was for official business in her job as Speaker as opposed to a Liberal Party fundraiser.

While Mrs Bishop's office was yet to respond, her office has previously released a statement saying she believed it was within her entitlements.
